  Resource Packs

Resource Packs are fun, fabulous and completely worth the money!

  • The 4 Rules of Saltaire: rules of the Village, the Mill, the Park, & the Almshouses (you wouldn't believe how many daft rules there were!)
  • Beautifully presented details of residents who lived in Saltaire from census records.
  • A hip and funky laminated bookmark.
  • A fan-tabulous set of 12 postcard-size Victorian images of Saltaire!
  • A print of a signed postcard of Sir Titus Salt which you'll cherish forever.
Will you enjoy a Salts Guided Walk?

Sir Titus SaltAbsolutely - they're fabulous! Did you know that Sir Titus Salt built this amazing model Industrial Village between 1851 & 1876 and it is now a World Heritage Site? The village consisted of Salts Mill, neat stone cottages for the workers, alms houses for the poor and needy, a school, shops, an institute, wash houses, a hospital, churches and a park (but no pub - God forbid!). The Village still stands and most of the buildings have survived (in pretty good nick too!) even if their function is now different. Oh - and there are now establishments that sell alcoholic beverages!

The walks are great fun. You'll be given a bookmark which tells you about one of the hundreds of folk who actually lived here. During your walk, you'll get to know more about your character. You'll see what house your character lived in, where they worked and find out who they married. Maybe you'll be little Sarah Ann Baker who lived at 2 Stable Cottage and was trained to be Sir Titus Salt's servant - or perhaps John Parley, an Overlooker who fell in love with Mary Denby. If you've got questions or special areas of interest in Saltaire - feel free to ask. Our Tour Guides are very knowledgeable as well as great entertainers (they're modest too!)
