CYCLING ON THE TOWPATH - PERMIT NEEDED
The towpath which runs along the Leeds to Liverpool canal is owned by British Waterways. Cyclists should carry a permit when cycling along the towpath and abide by codes of conduct.
The permit is FREE and can be downloaded from the British Waterways website. In carrying a permit, you agree to the following codes of conduct.
- Give way to others at all times.
- Warn others of your approach.
- Watch out for hazards.
- Get off and walk if the path becomes difficult.
- Ride in single file and don't bunch.
- Don't risk a skid!
- Only cycle in daylight.
- Never race!
- Permission may be withdrawn if you ignore this code and you could be liable to prosecution.
