Music in the Park - 9 July 2006
Gypsy - rained off

Rained off!Now you know why bandstands were invented. In Britain, because of the danger of showers rather than sunstroke for the performers. The third event of this summer’s “Saltaire Bandstand” programme fell foul of showers this Sunday 9th July. Bradford’s rising rock band “Gypsy” turned up keen to play – for nothing but a collection – and had to refrain from setting up owing to electrical hazard. Quite a number of music-fans turned up to listen, but understood why the event had to be cancelled. Whilst the cricketers on the adjacent Saltaire Cricket Club pitch could scurry for cover, an electric band set-up can’t take the risk.

“Saltaire Bandstand” can guarantee that at its remaining three events, there will be some music indoors in the Half Moon Café, if not outside. The next guests are the descendants of the original Saltaire Band, i.e Hall Royd Brass Band, on Sunday 23rd July at 2.30.

It is hoped that Gypsy will return to Roberts Park in 2007, and who knows, Roberts Park might even be able to offer protection from the elements.
