World Heritage Weekend 26 & 27 April 2014

Saltaire, West Yorkshire’s World Heritage Site, is hosting its 4th annual celebration of International Sites and Monuments Day with activities and exhibitions on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th April 2014.

Greenside Alpacas will be visiting again – this time in the grounds of the United Reformed Church.  Come and see the animals with the wool that built Saltaire!  Lou Sumray will offer a free workshop to draw live Alpacas or to make your own decorated Alpaca.

The Horse Boating Society will give demonstrations on harnessing the horse (Bilbo) and take a trip along the canal – you can walk alongside on the towpath.

The Saltaire Archive will be displayed in Shipley College’s Salt Building, with four talks over the weekend.  Colin Coates will explain the uses of Victoria Hall during the First World War.  Jamie Roberts will describe his family’s role in saving Salts Mill.  Maggie Smith will tell of some tumultuous days when the Mill was run by Illingworth Morris. Claire Wellesley-Smith will speak and answer questions about the use of natural plant dyes in her project “Fabric of Bradford”.

A programme of events will be available from the Visitor Information Centre in Saltaire and from this website: at the end of March.
