Shipley Area Community Heroes Awards 2013 – 2014

Closing date extended to 31st January 2014

Do you know someone who lives within the Shipley Constituency who is an ‘unsung hero’ for the voluntary work they do within the local community? Or do you know of a small group who have worked together to make a real difference in your community?

If so, please nominate them for a SHIPLEY AREA COMMUNITY HEROES AWARD!

The Shipley Area Community Heroes Awards are funded by Shipley Area Committee and are designed to:

  • acknowledge and thank local residents who have made a significant contribution to improving the quality of life for other people within the Shipley Constituency;
  • celebrate and publicise the achievements of local people;
  • encourage more people to help others within their communities.

The award scheme is open to all residents/small groups within the Shipley Constituency (Wharfedale, Bingley, Bingley Rural, Baildon, Shipley, and Windhill and Wrose Wards).  The nominators must also live within the Constituency.

All the nominees who meet the criteria will receive a certificate from the Shipley Area Committee and be invited to an award ceremony in March 2014.

From those nominated, four outstanding achievement awards will be chosen (one from each category).  The four categories are:

  • established small group of volunteers (has been operating for over 3 years) of any age up to a maximum of six named group-members;
  • new small group of volunteers (has been operating for less than 3 years) of any age up to a maximum of six named group-members;
  • individual adult (age 22 or over);
  • individual young person (age 21 or under).

The outstanding achievement award selection will be undertaken by the Grants Advisory Group (a sub-group of the Area Committee comprised of five local District Councillors).

Nominations for individuals or groups who have been previously nominated but did not win an outstanding achievement award are welcomed.

The four winners of the outstanding achievement awards will, in addition to receiving a certificate to commemorate their success, be awarded £200 for them to donate to a constituted voluntary or charitable organisation of their choice within the Shipley Area, to be used for purposes of community benefit.
