| Free tennis anyone!
Forget the World Cup, if you have been inspired to take up sport this warm summer, why not try free tennis in the parks? Salts Tennis Club, with support from Sport England, Bradford Parks, Shipley Area Committee and the Yorkshire Lawn Tennis association (YLTA) are offering free tennis coaching every Saturday in your local parks throughout the summer. You can join in at Northcliffe Park (1-3pm), Temple Rhydding Park (3-5pm) or Cottingley Park (4-6pm). There’s no need to book, just turn up on the day, racquets and balls will be provided.
Everyone welcome
Everyone from age 5 upwards is welcome to join in and have a go. Anne Boyd, Sport England’s Regional Lead for Yorkshire, said: “The opportunity to try a new sport for the first time is often all a person needs to catch the sporting bug. The Free tennis in the Parks project is a great way for all people to try tennis and have a quality sporting experience that will encourage them to stay involved.” The scheme is part of Salts Tennis Club ‘affordable for all’ tennis development plan and club secretary John Bretherick added “Salts Tennis Club is committed to giving as many people as possible the chance to take up tennis, and we want to encourage anyone who enjoys these free tennis coaching sessions in the parks to come along afterwards to join follow up coaching at Salts Tennis Club and Titus Salt School.”
Junior Summer Camps
There are also junior summer tennis camps: a free camp sponsored by Shipley Area Committee (aimed at first time tennis players), and more junior camps running through the rest of the summer holidays.
