Saltaire Cottages: a new website for Anne and Roger Heald

Saltaire Cottages ( is a new website featuring 2 lovely holiday properties in the heart of Saltaire, owned by Anne and Roger Heald who ran the Tourist Information Centre and Gift Shop on Victoria Road.

Anne and Roger have been involved in Saltaire's community for many years. They opened their shop in Easter 1994 and developed it as the Saltaire Information Centre selling local maps, books, cards and gifts. They published a Saltaire guide book, written by the late Clive Woods, a local historian, which sold 10,000 copies, and helped to set up the Saltaire Traders Association, which is still in existence today. They were involved in the organisation of promotional events including Easter Extravaganzas and Victorian Evenings, which helped to increase the profile of Saltaire. They also pressed for improvements in the signage for the Village, a project which is still on-going, and were instrumental in persuading Ordnance Survey to put Saltaire on their maps as a named area.

It was a sad day when their shop closed on 4th January 2007. They sold the shop, which is now Magic Number 3, but kept the upstairs flat, where they still live. They have not quite retired though! Anne and Roger have two properties in the heart of Saltaire which are offered as holiday or short-term lets. Local designer, Pamela Reynolds, put together a website to showcase the properties and give a flavour of what Saltaire is about. The website is quirky with a Harry Potter-style font, and themes Saltaire's World Heritage status as a bit of local magic. Overlooker's Cottage on George street and Mill Cottage on Whitlam Street are available for hire at any time of the year. Visitors can make their booking enqiries online.
