“Early Music with a Bite”
(BBC Radio3)

Horses BrawlThe Early Music Shop is delighted to present a concert at Salts Mill by Horses Brawl, one of the UK’s most vibrant performing duos.  Described as 'Early music with a bite" by BBC Radio 3's Sean Rafferty, Horses Brawl interweave fragments of diverse melodies to form engaging and inspiring new pieces.

Laura Cannell – Fiddle, Recorders, Crumhorn
Adrian Lever – Guitar, Bowed guitar

Performing from memory their virtuosity and originality draws in even the most unsuspecting audience members. With a repertoire of contemporary, early and traditional musical pieces, they have been hailed by BBC Radio 3 as “an early music group to keep an eye on...". Since forming in 2003, Horses Brawl have caused quite a stir with their cutting-edge take on early and traditional music. With roots firmly embedded in traditional English and early music from Europe, the two performers experiment on guitar, bowed guitar, double-barrelled recorders, crumhorn and fiddle to create fresh contemporary compositions. Taking fragments of early and traditional folk music, the duo create entirely new pieces. Often cinematic and dramatic, the music can be darkly emotional and strangely uplifting.
