Dear friends,
We have recently launched an appeal to carry out vital repairs to the structure of the United Reformed Church at Saltaire in this the 150th Anniversary year for the building.
As part of the appeal and the 150th celebrations we planned some two years ago to have a sponsored read through of the Bible and Apocrypha in memory of John, my husband who was minister at the church from 1988 until his death in 1995.
It was in 1972 in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire that he and I, along with 5 members of my Youth Theatre - none of whom were connected with the church - undertook this task and it seemed a good way to repeat the event in order to celebrate John's life, the anniversary of the church and to raise money.
I'd be really grateful if you could publicise this event and the competition in your churches and amongst your friends. If you would like to come along to listen or would like to come and help I would be delighted to see you.
We hope that the event will not just be to raise money but will be an act of witness to the village and to the throngs of tourists who visit the church.
Thank you for reading this. Please broadcast the news around your community!
With sincere good wishes,
Valerie Jenkins
