Salts Tennis ClubA new tennis initiative between Titus Salt School and Salts Tennis Club has led to the appointment of Richard Senior as the head coach with the opportunity to build a mini tennis academy at the school's new excellent facilities and continuing to build the ‘affordable tennis coaching for all’ initiative at Salts Tennis Club. “It’s a great opportunity and one which I relish” commented Richard, who comes into the role with a wealth of experience in coaching tennis at schools in the Leeds area and at South Leeds tennis centre.  Richard has achieved a great deal of success in providing a platform from which talent can flourish. He is extremely proud of his work in the Beeston and Hunslet areas of Leeds, where he coached a number of juniors to County and National honours, (notably local boys Daniel and Martin Regan who were selected from a local primary school to become top 10 national players)."We are searching for the next tennis star in the area but also providing fun tennis activities and games for all juniors who would like to just have a go and see if they like tennis and would like to come to some of the events we are holding” Richard added.

John Bretherick (secretary & junior coordinator at the tennis club) commented, “We are really pleased with the support from Titus Salt School, Bradford Leisure Services, Bradford Education, the Yorkshire Lawn Tennis Association and the clubs sponsors (Pace plc, Jack Pennington Ltd and Illingworth McNair) in creating this opportunity to deliver free tennis coaching in local schools, parks and at the club.  It’s a great team effort and one we believe will be beneficial for all who are involved”.   This summer Richard plans to deliver tennis coaching in 8 primary schools in the area as well as Titus Salt School and potentially other secondary schools with opportunities for juniors aged 5 to 11 to attend the new mini tennis academy at Titus Salt School, with coaching for older children at the tennis club.  Richard is also organising tennis coaching and tournaments in local schools, Northcliffe Park and at Salts Tennis Club, giving more opportunities for juniors to participate.

The junior and adult coaching at Salts tennis club starts in May on Wednesday and Friday evenings and at Titus Salt School on Monday’s.  The tennis club is holding an open day on Sunday 3rd May from 1 to 4pm, with Richard and his coaching team organising free coaching during the day which is open to anyone to just come down anytime during the day.  Details about the club and the coaching program will be available on the day.

“The facilities at the school and the club are fantastic, the clubs courts are being resurfaced and a new 4th court being built in May which will be a coaching court and will allow us to build a program of tennis all year round with great opportunities for everyone in the area” added Richard.  “With 6 tennis courts and indoor facilities at the school and 4 courts at the club we are planning to organise more competitive opportunities with junior leagues and tournaments and the floodlit courts at the club will enable us to continue this throughout the autumn and winter”.

Further details of the tennis coaching can be obtained from Richard Senior on 07855 764777, or his website www.tennisunited.net.  For club information visit the clubs website www.saltssports.co.uk/tennis.
