SPEED LIMIT PETITION HANDED OVER TO COUNCIL

A petition of nearly 500 signatures calling for a 20 mph speed limit through Saltaire Village was handed over to Bradford Council by Martyn Love, Shipley councillor for the Green Party.

The petition was started by a resident in Caroline Street after a near-miss at the junction of Albert Street and supported by the Saltaire Village Society and other residents. Bradford Council will be conducting checks and will report on aggressive driving as well as those breaking the speed limit.

Saltaire has become an accident blackspot with regular accidents occuring on Saltaire Road, at the junctions of Exhibition Road and Victoria Road, where traffic exits the village. The streets of Saltaire are used as a rat run, with traffic turning down Baker Steet and progressing along Caroline Street in an attempt to beat the congestion to join the Bingley bypass.
