The Saltaire Village Archive: Open to the Public for the Summer
Shipley College's archive of rare and interesting artefacts and is open to the public for four weeks during the summer until Friday August 17th. The exhibition is open from Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 3pm, in the College's Exhibition Building, Exhibition Road, Saltaire. Contact (01274) 327225 for further information.
The Saltaire Archive includes original drawings of Sir Titus Salt as a boy, Salt family portraits and photographs, pieces from a dinner service used during a Royal visit in 1882 and pictures of Milner Field, Titus Salt Junior's famous home. This collection of memorabilia and artefacts is normally kept carefully stored away, so it's a great opportunity for those who are interested in Saltaire history.
Over the years the Salt family has given the college custodianship of many of the Salt family's artefacts.
The next meeting of the Saltaire History Club will take place on Sir Titus Salt's birthday, Thursday, September 20, in the Shipley College Resource Centre, Exhibition Road, Saltaire, from 7pm to 9pm. All welcome. For further information contact Dave Shaw on 07736 408339 or email daveshaw@saltairevillage.info
