Saltaire History Club
Dave Shaw sends news of meetings for February and May

Greetings to All, and may 2007 prove to be a happy and successful year for everyone.

Well, we got off to a cracking start with our first Club meet on 16th Nov – over 20 attendees, all with useful input. Roger Clarke’s talk on Saltaire’s shop histories prompted new leads that are currently being followed up, and the general chat over coffee has led to several collaborations to help individuals further their particular investigations. More pieces are going to be added to the Saltaire history jigsaw as the weeks go by – good luck to all involved.

We now have dates for our next two meetings – both on Thursday evenings, same venue, same time: Resource Centre, Shipley College, Exhibition Road, Saltaire, 7 – 9 pm. Please get your diaries out, and pencil in the dates now: Feb 22 and May 17.

We plan to have different members running each meeting of the Club, so if you’d like to have a go, please let us know. Hattie (Townsend) has kindly agreed to chair the Feb meeting.

The idea of keeping meetings very informal seemed to go down well, and we will continue to devote at least half the time for informal chat over coffee and biscuits, so that everyone has the chance to chat with others about their findings and interests. I’ll put some info and further ideas on our History Club Chat Board on the Saltaire Web site shortly, but in the meantime if you have any topics for discussion at meetings, please say.

So, look forward to seeing everyone on 22nd Feb, and please keep an eye on the website for news as it develops.

Good digging!
