National Lottery grant for Roberts Park, Saltaire
Roberts Park has been awarded a grant of £114,800 as part of the National Lottery's "Parks for People" programme, towards the development of a detailed stage two application for the implementation of a £4.9 million restoration and development programme.
The new Parks for People theme is a partnership between the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery Fund. The programme has been designed to improve the local environment and encourage communities to become actively involved in their local parks. £160 million will be invested by the two lottery distributors over the next three years.
The stage one application was based on thorough evaluation of the Site’s history, culminating in the production of a detailed conservation management plan. A successful stage two application will require us to build on this and demonstrate a comprehensive approach to engaging groups and individuals in the redevelopment and future management of the site.
The Council Executive is now involved in preparing the stage two application and will be contacting relevant groups, organisations and individuals to ensure that a robust submission demonstrating how the park will be restored, engage local people in the process and increase visitor numbers, particularly from groups that are currently underrepresented.
