Roger Clarke - Tourist Guide, Historian & Reporter...

Roger Clarke, Saltaire Tour GuideSaltaire is a magical place which I love for its architecture, history and atmosphere. Past and present are side by side, enhancing each other. But I know from talking with many visitors, in the Village and on the website, that you have many different reasons for visiting. Sometimes it's for the retail experience to be found on Victoria Road and in the imaginatively regenerated Mill where there are are quality gifts and good food galore alongside Hockney art, designer jewellery, clothing, kitchenware and much more. For some it's to trace family history. Did you know that 3,500 people lived in the Village and worked in the Mill at any one time over the 130 years it was in production? Their desendants return on nostagic visits to fulfil a destiny. There are lots of reasons for coming to Saltaire. I would like to hear what yours are.
