Yes. it is a good thread to discuss.
we already heard in news that The county’s procurement department is going out for bids for a company to remove and recycle scrap metal that the county normally throws away. County public works departments such as fleet services, traffic control and water works use metal items such as culvert pipe, cast iron pipes, irrigation pipes brass water meters, cast iron pumps and valves.
I've noticed there has been a big increase in people going down the back alleys and taking stuff from peoples back yards on the premise that it is just scrap. Having been off for the summer I am now noticing, on average, that they turn up every 3-4 days.
I always challenge them and they have, in the past, normally gone away with a flea in their ear after threatening them with the police.
I have spoken to community police officers about this and they said nothing could be done.
The ones I have just challenged today were highly abusive, swearing at me and left on the train! We now appear to have commuter scrappers...
Everyone should be vigilant about this, especially those of you who are doing houses up and are leaving large metal objects in their back yards, such as radiators etc. I know people who have had those taken and someone who had their fully working BBQ nicked.
