Join us in supporting accessible arts for all

An exhibition of photgraphs by local artist Sandra Cockayne will be on show in the Gallery restaurant at The Old Tramshed in Saltaire as part of an ‘accessible arts’ initiative.  The initiative was inspired by recent changes at The Old Tramshed, which included the rejuvenation of the galleried landing into the Gallery restaurant. The extensive wall space available in the Gallery provided a unique opportunity to exhibit the work by local and regional artists. Sandra is the fifth artist to be invited to exhibit her work in the Gallery which will be open to the general public, making art less formal and more accessible to the wider community. Sandra, who will be present at the opening, is a resident of Bradford and her work is photography. The Gallery will feature a wide range of artists whose work will be on show for between 6 to 8 weeks at a time, including artists whose work has received national acclaim. The Old Tramshed is an iconic building, sharing both the charm and history of Saltaire, a World Heritage site famous for its art and architecture. Positioning the Gallery as both a restaurant and exhibition venue, supports and promotes the arts as well as providing ‘accessible arts’ for all.

“I am a 52 year old self taught, disabled photographer based in Bradford who loves to capture the essence of Yorkshire. Although originally from Leeds, I now find that living in Bradford with it’s modern and also beautiful gothic architecture is an absolute delight to capture.
Landscaping, architecture, “Urbexing” and wedding photography are very exciting to me & I am  always determined to get “the” shot.
I love strong colours, you will find that most of my work will make a statement through colour.
I also find that the gritty, grungy, textures of black and white/monochrome of architectural shots works well for me too at the other end of the spectrum.”
Saltaire is my favourite architectural place at the moment, so in this gallery you will find my “take” on this wonderful World Heritage site. I started taking photographs in my early 20’s using the old Olympus OM1 & OM2, SLR cameras, but the hobby was soon replaced by time restraints working full time. It wasn’t until 2010 that I picked up my first digital camera, I haven’t looked back since!"
