Abbot, Hannah
c1873 – 1953

Hannah Abbott was born in Saltaire c1873, the youngest of four children to Jeremiah Abbott and Linah Holdsworth. They were married in Bradford Cathedral 20 January 1866.

In 1871 the family lived at 23 Albert Terrace in Saltaire with Jeramiah working as a warehouseman. By 1881 they had moved to 13 Herbert Street in Saltaire with Jeremiah working as a gatekeeper. By 1891 they were at 65 George Street in Saltaire with Hannah working as a weaver.

Hannah, living in Horton, Bradford, married Harry Whitaker 6 June 1899 at Bradford Cathedral. They had four children; Laurence (b1900), William (b1902), Caroline (b1906), & Doris May (b1910). In 1901 & 1911 the family were living in Baildon with Harry working as a hairdresser.
Hannah died in 1953.

Hannah was the sister of Harriet Abbott.

 

Abbott, Harriet
c1873 – 17 May 1899

Harriet Abbott was born in Saltaire c1873, the third youngest of four children to Jeremiah Abbott and Linah Holdsworth. They were married in Bradford Cathedral 20 January 1866.

In 1871 the family lived at 23 Albert Terrace in Saltaire with Jeramiah working as a warehouseman. By 1881 they had moved to 13 Herbert Street in Saltaire with Jeremiah working as a gatekeeper. By 1891 they were at 65 George Street in Saltaire with Harriet working as a weaver.

Harriet married Joseph Haste, a bootmaker, 10 June 1896 at Saltaire Wesleyan Methodist Chapel. They had a son, Albert, born in January 1899. Sadly Harriet died 17 May 1899 and she was buried in Nab Wood Cemetery in Shipley. Her widowed husband endured more grief when Albert died 28 August 1899, aged just 7 months.

In 1901 Joseph was living with his parents at 2 Maddocks Street in Saltaire. He died 23 June 1949 ad he was buried alongside his wife and son.
Harriet was the sister of Hannah Abbott.

Ackroyd, Sarah Ann
2 March 1875 – 1963

Sarah Ann Ackroyd was the eldest of five children to John Ackroyd and Mary Elizabeth Murgatroyd. They were married 14 December 1872 at Bradford Cathedral.

Sarah was born 2 March 1875 in Saltaire. She was baptised 9 May 1875 at Saltaire United Reform Church. In 1881 the family were living at 4 Shirley Street in Saltaire with John working as was a worsted warp twister. By 1891 they had moved to 2 Gordon Terrace (renumbered 53 Bingley Road) in Saltaire. Sarah, aged 16, was working as a spooler.

Living at 17 Gordon Terrace (renumbered 83 Bingley Road) in Saltaire, Sarah married Frederick Phillipson, a grocer from Bingley, 1 June 1897 at St Pauls Shipley. In 1901 the married couple were living at 14 Simpson Street in Burnley, with Frederick working as a baker. By 1911 they had moved to Speight Square in Birkenshaw. Frederick was now a wool warehouseman. They had six children; Myra Eliza (b1898), Frank Murgatroyd (b1899), Annie Lizzie (b1902), Arthur (b1904), Ernest (b1907) and Clara (b1910).

Their eldest son Frank, served with 2nd/6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry in World War One. Sadly he was killed 7th Nov 1918, just four days before the war ended.  His grave can be found in Esquelmes Churchyard, Hainut in Belgium.

Sarah died, aged 88, in 1963, her husband having died in 1950.

 

Ainsworth, Elizabeth
1872 – 1932

Elizabeth Ainsworth was born 1872 in Saltaire, the fourth of seven children to John Harrison and Margaret Ann Butler. They were married in Bradford Cathedral 31 August 1862.

In 1871 & 1881 the family lived at 42 Caroline Street in Saltaire with John working as fitter mechanic. John died in 1877. In 1891 widow Margaret was living at 21 Victoria Road in Saltaire, with Sarah working as a weaver. Margaret died in 1900.

In 1901 Elizabeth was not working and living with her siblings at 22 Victoria Road in Saltaire. Elizabeth never married and she died in 1932.

Elizabeth was the sister of Sarah Hannah Ainsworth.

Ainsworth, Sarah Hannah
1876 – 1955

Sarah Hannah Ainsworth was born 1876 in Saltaire, the second youngest of seven children to John Harrison and Margaret Ann Butler. They were married in Bradford Cathedral 31August 1862.

In 1871 & the family lived at 42 Caroline Street in Saltaire with John working as fitter mechanic. John died in 1877. In 1891 his widow, Margaret was living at 21 Victoria Road in Saltaire, with Sarah working as a weaver. Margaret died in 1900.     

Sarah married James Stanley Whittaker in 1900. They lived in Baildon with James working as a coal merchant. They had four children: Margaret (1905-1984), Mary (1908-2002), John (1908-1966) and Arthur Stanley (1911-1975).

Sarah died in 1955 and James died in 1962. Sarah was the sister of Elizabeth Ainsworth.
